Brief history of steel structure development

The development of steel structure can be traced back to the late 18th century, when the British inventor William Bower invented the steel structural truss, which was the starting point of the development of steel structure.

In 1850, British inventor James Stirling invented the first steel steam engine, ushering in a new era in the development of steel structures.

In 1860, French architect Alber Lappland created the first steel structure, the Bastille Building in Paris.

In 1890, the German architect William Marlin designed the first steel structure, the Berlin Bell Building, which was a landmark in steel construction.

In the early 20th century, steel structures became popular and many symbolic buildings appeared, such as the Empire State Building in New York, the Union Building in Chicago and the Sacramento Station.

In the 1950s, steel construction entered a period of rapid development, and there were many symbolic buildings, such as the London Eye, Chicago's Globe Tower and Zurich's new airport.

In the 1990s, steel structures entered the modern development period, and many symbolic buildings appeared, such as the International Finance Center in Hong Kong, the World Trade Center in New York and the National Tower in Singapore. Today, steel structure architecture has developed into the most important building type in the world, and its application in architecture is more extensive. From urban construction to daily life, steel structure architecture has played an important role.
